3: Of Vampires
3 things that unnerve us about vampires.
- Your vision goes blurry. Your arms drop limp to your sides. Your legs are buzzing and immovable. Tears stream from your eyes as you see your lover's eyes glaze over - once soft, now cold - as they bare their sharp canines, glinting like shards of glass in the moonlight.
- Drinking large amounts of blood is toxic due to its high iron content.
- In 1892, the Brown family of Exeter, Rhode Island, was devastated by tuberculosis, sparking rumors that young Mercy Brown was a vampire after they found blood still in her heart after her grave was exhumed. This and her lack of decomposition led locals to burn her heart and use its ashes in a desperate, grisly cure for her dying brother. A sinister episode in the New England vampire panic.
